Athletic Profile 101
Your profile isn't a trophy case — it's a tool. Here's exactly how to finish it, share it, and put it in front of the coaches you actually want to hear from.
Step 1 — Finish the profile
An empty profile is worse than no profile. Fill it out before you send it anywhere.
Profile photo
Coaches remember a face.
Sport and position
The first thing they filter on.
School, city and grad year
Tells them if you fit their class.
Height and weight
Expected at every level.
Highlight film
The single biggest factor.
Stats or performance numbers
Backs up the film.
GPA and test scores
Academics open doors film can't.
Personal statement
Shows who they'd be coaching.
Coach contact
Coaches call coaches.
Step 2 — Grab your link
One link. Everything a coach needs, in one place.
Create your profile first and your shareable link will show up right here.
Put it everywhere:
- • Your email signature
- • Instagram, X and TikTok bios
- • Team and club rosters or bios
- • Tournament and showcase registration forms
- • Any message you send a coach
Step 3 — The email that gets opened
Short, specific, easy to skim. Coaches read hundreds of these — get to the point.
Subject: [Position] | Class of [Grad Year] | [Your Full Name] — [Your School] Coach [Last Name], My name is [Your Full Name]. I'm a [Position] at [Your School] in [City, State], class of [Grad Year], and I'm very interested in your program. Quick snapshot: • Position: [Position] • Class: [Grad Year] • School: [Your School] — [City, State] • Height / Weight: [Height / Weight] • GPA: [GPA] You can see my full profile, film and stats here: [Your Book The Game profile link] I'd love to know what you look for at my position and what your recruiting timeline looks like for my class. Thank you for your time, Coach. [Sign off with your name — then add your contact info below]
Don't forget your contact info
We give you the format — you add the contact details yourself at the end of the email, outside the platform. Close every message with your name, school, grad year, position, city/state, then your email and phone number. A coach who can't reach you can't recruit you.
Under 18? Use a parent or guardian's email and phone number as your contact info.
Personalize every send. Swap in the coach's real name and one honest sentence about their program or school. Mass-blasted, copy-pasted emails get deleted — thirty seconds of homework doesn't.
Step 4 — Keep showing up
Recruiting rewards the athletes who stay in front of coaches without pestering them.
- • Send on a weekday morning — not during their game week if you can help it.
- • No reply after 10-14 days? Send one short, polite follow-up. One.
- • Every time you add new film or a big stat line, that's a reason to reach out again.
- • Email the position coach and the recruiting coordinator, not just the head coach.
- • Keep a simple list of who you emailed and when so you don't double up.
No profile or email guarantees interest, a spot, or a scholarship. What it guarantees is that when a coach goes looking, there's something real to find.
